Shipt Doubles Down on Hometown Investment During Hunger Action Month

This September for Hunger Action Month, Shipt is proud to announce a $250,000 investment over the next five years, in the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama (CFBCA). Shipt’s ongoing partnership with CFBCA reflects the company’s dedication to addressing hunger and strengthening communities in Shipt’s headquarters city and surrounding areas.

Over the next five years, this investment will help improve food access and better serve the 12 counties that the food bank covers including Jefferson County where Shipt is headquartered, creating a lasting impact in the central Alabama communities. According to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama’s 2023 impact report, one in five people in Central Alabama is food insecure and one in four children is food insecure.

“Every person and family should be able to access food without barriers. Eliminating food insecurity in central Alabama has been central to Shipt’s giving efforts for nearly a decade, but we know it’s not one we can address on our own,” said Shipt Vice President of Economic Development and Social Impact Khadijah Abdullah. “That’s why investing in organizations like the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is so important. Together, with food organizations and nonprofits, we can make a difference in so many people’s lives.”

During Hunger Action Month, more than 80 Shipt team members in Birmingham will also volunteer at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and Jones Valley Teaching Farm. More than 200 team members across the country will also be volunteering at organizations focused on food insecurity. Team members will also have the opportunity to hear from food insecurity organizations speak on topics such as food waste and participate in a food waste challenge.

In a continued effort to increase food access nationwide, Shipt announced accepting SNAP EBT payments through the Shipt app and website earlier this year. Shipt has also provided over 12.5 million meals for food-insecure individuals through its longtime partnership with Feeding AmericaⓇ, and since 2022, has awarded $4.5 million to community organizations and nonprofits across the country focused on addressing food insecurity, economic disparities, and workforce development.
