Shipt CMO Alia Kemet named to Forbes Entrepreneurial CMO 50 List

Each year, Forbes releases its Entrepreneurial CMO 50 List, which recognizes marketing leaders that are transforming not only the brands and business they represent, but also the marketing industry at-large and culture itself through their entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and impact. We’re proud, delighted, and not a bit surprised to share that among this year’s distinguished Forbes’ honorees is Shipt’s very own Chief Marketing Officer, Alia Kemet

Alia joined Shipt in October 2022, bringing with her an unwavering entrepreneurial spirit and distinct approach, which has brought her great success from the very beginning of her career. She’s built a reputation for capitalizing on trends and working against the grain, reinvigorating traditional approaches to achieve fresh, distinct results. Alia recognizes that great success doesn’t come without building, empowering, and sustaining strong teams. 

“A game-changing entrepreneurial mindset is contagious. I have been described as a courageous leader of winning teams, but I know one person isn’t enough to impact the trajectory of a brand,” said Alia Kemet, Shipt Chief Marketing Officer. “My true superpower is incubating and spreading an entrepreneurial mindset, until it becomes contagious and endemic to the team’s culture. I build fearless teams by unlocking and amplifying the distinctive talents of each person, encouraging every team member to be singularly courageous and collectively unstoppable.”

And at Shipt, she’s done just that. Take last summer’s Back-to-College campaign, for example, as Shipt set out to launch a unique membership program for college students under Alia’s leadership. Rather than simply launching the membership and building a campaign to amplify it, Alia saw an opportunity to debut the membership differently, tapping into college culture and intentionally harnessing Shipt’s values. Shipt tapped four incredibly talented creative student interns from Howard University, and they wrote, produced, and starred in an advertising campaign, all while being mentored by Kemet as well as entrepreneur, actress, and producer Issa Rae. Simply put, Shipt put college culture at the center of the program, which guaranteed relevance to the target audience, all while amplifying the voices of underrepresented individuals in creative industries.    

Over the past nearly two years at Shipt, Alia has guided the powerful marketing team to be maniacal about the customer experience, championing brand loyalty by bringing together cultural relevance, data, and insights to inform how Shipt shows up for consumers, resulting in lifts in the metrics that matter including brand awareness and social engagement. And she’s just getting started! In 2024 and beyond, Alia will continue to leverage her entrepreneurial mindset and expertise with transforming digital experiences to deepen the brand’s recognition as a human-first retail technology company, connecting to core audiences through culture-driven programming and developing creative marketing materials to breakthrough in the competitive industry.
