Cookie Swaps and Shipt Shops

One shopper brings the holiday cheer to Target employees thanks to sweet treats. 

Amy began shopping during the pandemic to get out of the house and serve her community. She was especially interested in the flexibility that Shipt offered. As a teacher, Amy likes that she can shop when it works for her and that she can serve her community at the same time. 

“I saw Shipt advertised and knew it was the perfect type of job for me!” said Amy. 

Over the years, Amy has built many new relationships with store employees at the local Ellicott City Target where she regularly shops orders. According to Amy and her Target employee friends, the relationships developed over time as they worked together fulfilling orders. At first, conversations were related to orders and questions about Target or Shipt, but eventually everyone was on a first-name basis and asking after family, personal updates, and more.

“I feel like Norm from Cheers when I enter our local Target. I am greeted every day when I walk in the door and share jokes as I make my way through the store.  I love the Target associates and have developed a relationship with so many of them.”

When we asked Amy why the Target team means so much to her, she was quick to share details of how they support her as she serves Shipt customers. 

“They help me in so many ways. They are always willing to go and look for the freshest produce or help me find things that aren’t on the floor. If I need a clothing item that is hard to find I can always find one of them with “the magic wand” as I call it. They make my job so much fun because I always have a friendly face to talk to- and we talk a lot!”

Carl Trageser, a market department employee at Target, notes that Amy is as important to his team as they are to her. “My day is never complete without at least one visit from Amy!”

Amy feels so close to her friends at Target that last year she brought them holiday cookies as a way to say thanks for all their support throughout the year. She did the same this season, bringing a plate of homemade holiday treats to share– even coming multiple times to see her friends on different days and making breakfast bar treats for those working the early shift.

“I am especially close with the market team and produce, the front-end managers, the gentlemen who collect carts and some of the people who work the registers and self-checkout…The Christmas cookies [are a way to] thank them for their help all year long. I couldn’t do this without them,” said Amy.

One of Amy’s friends is Ray Tsang, a food and beverage team leader at the Ellicott City Target. Ray told us how much the holiday treats meant this year: “Speaking for myself and my team, it made our day! Having those cookies and treats as a token of appreciation for all the hard work the team has put into making our guest’s shopping experience the best we can and having it recognized shows the job we are doing is great. It was also a nice morale booster given the hectic times of holiday shopping.”
